BASIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR BHAKTI MEDITATION
- Choose a time and place that will ensure you will not be disturbed. This may be alone or with a meditation group.
- Create a sacred space with an image of your deity, candles, incense, and beauty.
- Wear comfortable clothing. Sit with a straight spine so the energy that is generated during meditation will flow smoothly through your body. Place your hands in a simple mudra (hand gesture) such as on your lap palms up or down.
- Gently close your eyes. Focus you gaze at the Third Eye (center of the forehead, just above and between the eyebrows).
- Say a prayer to invoke your personal deity and other divine beings. Ask that they enter you and transform you.
- Relax your body and mind with relaxation techniques.
- Begin to focus on the object of your meditation. This could be your breath, a mantra, your deity, suchness, a concept such as compassion, a guided practice, or another meditation you have learned.
- At the end of your practice say a prayer of gratitude.
- Take a few deep breaths to reconnect with your body, and gently open your eyes.
